Composite Materials
Mirage Sea Kayaks have been at the cutting edge of composite closed-molding processes for the past 30 years. We have perfected the art of the Infused Resin Transfer process (IRT) and our kayak builders are leading the innovation within the industry.

We work closely with our suppliers and Composites Australia to access the most modern composite fibres and the most advanced techniques of resin application in existence. Our experience in sea kayak building has allowed us to be at the fore-front of composite architecture, to bring you lightweight, durable and very strong sea kayaks.
Carbon Fibre
Woven Carbon fibre is a wonderful material for applications that require a high strength-to-weight ratio. Carbon fibre is stiff and strong but remains very light, this makes a strong and stiff sea kayak, that is also aesthetically beautiful.

Innegra Hex 3D
Innegra material is used in many different sport and marine applications. The Australian woven Hex 3D weave makes strong and durable sea kayaks. Innegra fiber can enhance the impact resistance and damage tolerance while reducing weight and vibration, thus making it a great lay-up for paddlers that are rough on their equipment. Kevlar (IRT)
(Kevlar) fabrics are made from High modulus Composite grade Aramid yarn that is woven in Australia. This fibre is probably the most perfect material for a solidly built sea kayak.
Kevlar that has its resin infused, offers a material that is very light, tough and a more damage tolerant laminate.

Kevlar (wet lay-up)
(Kevlar) fabrics are made from High modulus Composite grade Aramid yarn that is woven in Australia. This fibre is probably the most perfect material for a solidly built sea kayak.

Fibreglass
Chopped Strand Fibreglass Mat (CSM) is made up of chopped strands of glass fibre laid randomly and held together with a binder or stitching. Chopped Strand Mat is designed to cover a wide range of layup techniques. It easily conforms to molds and has fast wet out properties. This material makes a strong and very easy to repair sea kayak that along with an experienced builder, offers a moderately lightweight and inexpensive build.
